Right by the pool. Stay until the stars come out.

Open-air lounges with two grills and an ocean view.

Treadmill, elliptical and weights, with floor-to-ceiling windows onto the hills.

A glass-walled room with a table for ten and the ocean behind it.

Pick any bottle for $30 without leaving home, then take it out to the balcony at sunset. Several guests say it was their favorite part of the stay.

Coffee and breakfast basics are already in the kitchen. Outside, just the hills and birdsong.

Overlooking the gulf, a short walk from your door.

Jacó is ten minutes away and Los Sueños Marina five. Keep an eye out for monkeys and toucans on the way.

The sun sets over the gulf between 5:15 and 6:10 p.m., depending on the time of year.

Two grills in the shared area, with the lights of the coast in the distance.
Mar a Mar condominium in Villa Caletas, Garabito, on Costa Rica's Central Pacific coast, right by the entrance to Hotel Villa Caletas. Quiet enough to unwind, minutes from everything.
There's no shortage of good food and shops around here. These are the places we recommend, across four nearby areas.
Seafood and local cooking at La Ostra, El Hicaco and Patacón Cevichero. On the way, stop at the Tárcoles River bridge to watch the crocodiles from a safe distance.
Beachfront restaurants at Playa Herradura and Los Sueños Marina, with shops, sport fishing and an 18-hole golf course. Plaza Herradura has a supermarket, pharmacy and cafés.
Shops, great food and nightlife. Our picks: Novillo Alegre (Argentine steakhouse), Jerah Thai and Sépalo (fusion). Also worth it: Graffiti, wood-fired pizza at Amancio's, the casino at Croc's, and the open-air Jacó Walk.
Just south of Jacó: world-class waves, international surf contests and sunsets over dark volcanic sand. Right on the beach, Animal is a great steakhouse.
The surf is powerful and rip currents are common. It's best for experienced surfers; if you swim, stick to areas with lifeguards.

We'd recommend one. The condo sits up in the hills of Caletas, a five-minute drive from groceries, restaurants and Los Sueños Marina, and ten minutes from Jacó. Parking is free, with one assigned space; if you're bringing a second car, it can go in the visitor parking area.
About an hour and a half by car from Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO), mostly on Route 27.
Check-in is at 3 p.m. and checkout at 11 a.m., but both are flexible. We don't book an arrival on the same day another guest leaves, so if your plans need a different time, just ask. Check-in is self-service with a key lockbox.

Yes. Several families have stayed with kids. The complex has pools, a playground and a gated entrance with security.
Towels, bed linen, coffee, sugar and basic cooking supplies, a washer and dryer, and access to the pool, hot tubs, ranchos, gym and coworking room.
Just a few, so everyone has a good time: no smoking, no parties, quiet hours after 10 p.m., and no hanging clothes on the balcony (that one's a building rule).
Yes, depending on availability: extra cleaning and laundry if you need it, and bottles from the private wine cellar for $30 each. If you'd rather eat in, Uber Eats delivers all over the area.
